The jury of the 2025 Ermanno Olmi Award, which aims to promote and enhance short films by young directors, is composed this year of Chiara Borroni (lecturer and film critic), Luca Capponi (director), Dario Catozzo (training and distribution, Lab 80), Adriana Ferrarese (director and producer) and Francesca Magliulo (Director, Fondazione EOS). The latter will view the works together with a group of young people aged between 16 and 18, who founded the community “Controcampo” — a platform supported by Fondazione EOS and Anica Academy ETS — of which she will act as spokesperson within the jury.
The winners’ announcement will be held on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, at the movie theater Sala dell’Orologio in Bergamo.
THE JURY
Chiara Borroni (Domodossola, 1976)
She works at the University of Turin, where she also teaches the Film Criticism course. She has served as a selector for the Venice International Film Critics’ Week and the Turin Film Festival, has worked for the National Cinema Museum, and has published essays in numerous volumes. She is an editor for the magazine Cineforum, and collaborates with Il Mereghetti – Dizionario dei film as well as with various journals, including L’indice dei libri and Cinecritica.
Luca Capponi (Bergamo, 1988)
He is an Italian-Ecuadorian director based in Berkeley, California. After earning a Master’s degree in Cinema and Multimedia in Bologna, he was admitted to the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Palermo, where he focused on cinema of the real, with particular attention to migration and marginality. His films have been presented at international festivals such as the Venice Biennale and the Turin Film Festival. He is currently a recipient of the 2025 BAVC (Bay Area Video Coalition) Fellowship in San Francisco. His first feature film, Like Heaven Without God, currently in distribution, follows a community of homeless people living in camper vans in Berkeley. With a poetic and immersive style, Capponi tells stories of identity, resilience, and social belonging.
Dario Catozzo (Mogi das Cruzes, 1957)
Born in Brazil to Italian parents, he has been living in Italy since 1967, where he completed his studies, earning a classical high school diploma at the Paolo Sarpi State High School in Bergamo. For decades he has been a collaborator, later an employee and partner, of the cooperative company Lab 80 Film, where he has worked in distribution and taught numerous courses on film language at municipalities, libraries, schools, and cultural associations in the provinces of Bergamo, Brescia, and Milan. Since 1984, he has also collaborated with Bergamo Film Meeting.
Adriana Ferrarese (Bergamo, 1980)
She is an Italian documentary filmmaker and photographer based in Paris. After graduating from the film school La Fémis, she founded the production company Ceresa Films, entirely dedicated to creative and experimental documentaries. She has directed and produced several short and feature films, which have been awarded and screened at international festivals and events. The company later evolved into Ceresa Film Studio, expanding its activities to include photography. Her work moves between documentary observation and visual research, with the aim of exploring reality in all its most complex nuances.
Francesca Magliulo (Milan, 1970)
She has been working at Fondazione EOS for over 20 years, where she began managing the historical photographic archive before moving into communications, with a particular focus on environmental and social projects. In 2009, she led the establishment of the Sustainability function, which she directed until 2021, integrating sustainability into corporate strategies and promoting stakeholder engagement. She took part in the founding of the United Nations Global Compact Network Italy, focusing in particular on human rights and inclusion, is involved with the Centre for Business Culture, and for several years has been a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Tuscia in Viterbo.
